Ramen! Ramen R 101

Thanks to a reasonably well-known YouTuber with over a million subscribers, [Yes, we’re talking about you, Mikey Chen] we became fascinated with ramen. So when a ramen shop opened up nearby where we live, we went and checked it out and thus began our obsession with which ramen is best. That was two plus years ago.

R101 is the second or third ramen house that we went to, and one that we continue to frequent, although much less since I went Keto.

This hidden gem is located in a corner strip mall in Glendale, California. In fact, it’s so hidden that unless you googled “ramen houses in Glendale,” you’ve probably driven past it a dozen times heading up Central en route to the Galleria or the Americana. Seriously, we had no idea it was here.

We decided to try our normal go-to ramen and ordered up a bowl of Tonkatsu, and it was delicious. You have a choice of Pork Belly (char su) or Chicken breast. Bonus points to the waitstaff for having the presence of mind to ask me just how spicy I wanted my spicy ramen to be. The Japanese garlic oil added a nice touch of flavor and a bit of a kick, too. The soft boiled egg is extra.

I love their chicken karaage if for no other reason than they top it spiralized onions and a tasty rosemary soy sauce.
